PartyPoker Million V Day 6
Party Poker
Day 6: Friday, March 17, 2006
Tonight I got over a big fear and played real poker in one
of the poker rooms on board. You see, I know how to play poker, I just don’t
know all the strategy behind betting and I’m also not entirely comfortable with
the psychology of the game. When I was in college, a bunch of friends of mine
got together and played “skittle poker” every once in a while. No money, just
skittles as chips (don’t worry—we didn’t eat the skittles we played with).
There was no pressure, just lots of fun. I used to love it! But it’s another
story for a non-gambler like myself to actually put out my hard-earned money
with the possibility of losing it all. T.K. made it a little easier for me by
sponsoring me for a “simple” $60 buy-in sit and go table tournament. I played
very conservatively, but when I actually had a hand, I didn’t bet right and
ended up with a small pot. I also didn’t go “all-in” when I got low on chips
even though I had a pocket threes. Nevertheless, I wasn’t the first one out---I
came in sixth. But it was enough to get me hooked! We played another
tournament and this time, I hung in to take 4th place---just outside
of the money. Oh well… It’s too bad it’s almost the end of the cruise and I
just discovered that I really like the game of poker. I have one more day to
sharpen my skills…
Tonight we ate dinner with two entrepreneurial couples.
One couple owned a restaurant in Ft. Meyers, FL and the other owned a small
on-line poker site based in Toronto called checknraise.com.
