Well now, let’s talk about them freight elevators, you know, the big ol’ things that haul stuff up and down. Not like them fancy people elevators, these are for workin’ folks and their goods.

First thing you gotta think about is how darn big it needs to be. I mean, it ain’t one-size-fits-all, ya hear? Some are small, like, not much bigger than a good-sized shed, maybe 6 feet by 8 feet inside. Those can hold a fair bit, say 4,000 pounds, which is a whole lotta potatoes, let me tell ya.

Then you got your real monsters, the ones that could fit a whole tractor, maybe even two! We’re talkin’ 12 feet wide and 17 and a half feet deep, something like that. Those bad boys can lift 15,000 pounds, easy. That’s like, a whole herd of cows, I reckon.

  • Small Freight Elevators: Around 6 feet x 8 feet, holds up to 4,000 pounds.
  • Large Freight Elevators: Around 12 feet x 17.5 feet, holds up to 15,000 pounds.

Now, them passenger elevators, them’s different. They’re for folks, not freight. Usually, they’re somethin’ like 80 inches deep and 65 inches wide. And they don’t gotta carry as much weight, maybe 3,000 or 4,000 pounds. Enough for a bunch of people, but not a whole lotta stuff.

And get this, there’s these rules, ADA they call ‘em. They say an elevator gotta be at least 51 inches deep and 68 inches wide so folks in wheelchairs can use ‘em too. That’s important, ya know, gotta make sure everyone can get around.

So, how do you pick the right freight elevator size? Well, it ain’t just about the size of the box, it’s about what you’re gonna be liftin’ and how much it weighs. You gotta think real hard about it.

First off, you gotta understand them dimensions, you know, the length and width and all that. And how much weight it can hold. They measure that in pounds, see.

Then you gotta think about how you’re gonna load it up. Are you gonna roll it in on a cart? Use a forklift? Or maybe just lug it in by hand? That makes a difference, ya hear?

And another thing, how high does it gotta go? Is it just one floor, or ten? That changes things too.

Some folks, they build these elevators, and they’ll make ‘em just how you want ‘em. Any kinda system you need, they can do it. That’s what they say, anyways. They got all sorts of fancy features, but really, all you need is somethin’ that goes up and down and can carry your stuff.

So, if you’re in the market for a freight elevator, don’t just go buyin’ the first one you see. Think about what you need, how big it needs to be, how much weight it needs to hold, and how you’re gonna load it up. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. There’s folks out there who know this stuff, and they can help you make the right choice.

And remember, a good freight elevator is like a good mule, strong, reliable, and always ready to work. You don’t need fancy, you just need somethin’ that gets the job done.

Weight capacity is a big deal, ya hear? You don’t wanna overload that thing, or it might just break down on ya. And that’s a whole lotta trouble, believe you me.

So, there you have it. A little somethin’ about freight elevator sizes. Hope it helps ya out. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
